Play it Cool.

The winter in Haerbin is cold! When you spit, the saliva can be crumbled into 8 pieces – it’s true! When I was a teenager, my apartment was not far from SuoFeiYa church, and I remember, when I went to the vehicle factory cinema to see films, the paintings in its main hall were my first impression and recognition of painting. I can’t say I loved it.  I did not even understand it.  I dared not imagine I could be a part of the painting world, no less an artist. When I grew up, I worked in a factory; and because of my performance, I was promoted to be a cadre at the “division commander” level, and reported to the factory Director. I am happy in the job, with the tools and turning wheels.  I’m steadied now, I can’t be blown by wind, I can’t be drowned by rain. I am happy with my wife, we are both workers, the salary is fine, we have a son who studies well and never into mischief. We can say we have few troubles in life, and the life is quite interesting. When life is going well, I just want to play.  I am not very good at most things, but I do love fishing. I’m just not the competitive sort. As for the men I fish with, to say it simply, none of us fully embrace the common life, we do not care so much about regular occupations. Fishing is our way of enjoying life, the fish we catch is not our only gain, we also gain what comes of true comraderie.  It began when I came across a painter who called himself a “fisherman of the Yellow sea.” Our angling skills are just so-so, but our personalities connect and gradually we become fishing buddies.  Later, I bought a new apartment in BaiShiWan, and it was pure coincidence that my fishing buddy became my neighbor. Moreover, I found there were other neighbors who also love to paint. After some discussions, we decided to create “Baishiwan Art Salon” and I was inside the circle. Staying with Mr. Jia in the painting room, we listen to the powerful music, from Teng Geer. Sometimes we paint, sometimes we talk, there’s always tea, and when we feel happy, we like stronger drink. I say what I think. I do not care about fame. I do not care about money.  I want to be neither a follower nor a leader, I just want to play, just want to live happily, to play full-out, like there’s no tomorrow. Fishing in summer, painting in winter… play it cool.
